Tata Steel Jyoti Scholarship 2021 for SC/ST Students - Eligibility and Application Process

Tata Steel offers ‘Tata Steel Jyoti Fellowships’ to meritorious Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students from Jharkhand as Jharkhand is the state from where Tata began its venture in the steel sector. This scholarship programme was started in the 1970s. Under this scholarship scheme, students from East-Singhbhum, West-Singhbhum, and Seraikela Kharsawan districts are selected for the scholarship benefit. Students in class 7th, 8th, Undergraduate, Post-graduation, Diploma, and Vocational (1st and 2nd) courses can avail the financial benefits through this scheme. The objective of the Tata Steel Jyoti Scholarship scheme is to help candidates (through financial assistance) in continuing their education.

Eligibility for the Jyoti Scholarship Programme

The general eligibility criteria for the scholarship are:

  • The candidate must be a permanent resident of Singhbhum (East and West) and Seraikela Kharsawan.
  • Must belong to SC/ ST categories.

Educational eligibility criteria vary for all classes. Here are the details:

Classes

Educational Criteria

For class VII students

  • Must be studying in class VII.
  • Must have secured at least 40% marks in the annual exam of class VI

For class VIII students

  • Must be studying in class VIII.
  • Must have secured at least 40% marks in the annual exam of class VII.

For  college-level (1st Year)

Must be studying in the first year of one of the following courses:

  1. Undergraduate (general stream)
  2. Postgraduate (general stream)
  3. LLB
  4. B.Ed.
  5. Degree in Forestry/ Agriculture
  6. Degree/ Diploma in Hotel Management
  7. BBA (Bachelor in Business             Administration)
  8. BCA (Bachelor in Computer Application)
  9. B.Sc./ Vocational course in Biotechnology
  10. B.Sc./ Vocational course in IT/ CS
  11. B.Com./Vocational course in Principle and Practices of Insurance
  12. B.Com./Vocational courses in Advertising Sales Promotion and Sales Management
  13. B.Com./Vocational course in Office Management and Secretarial Practices
  14. BA/Vocational course in English Language and Literature

  • Those who belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL)/ Economically Backward Section will be given preference.
  • Those who get selected for the scholarship in class 7th or 8th will get the scholarship till 12th class provided they secure at least 45% marks in their annual exam in every class.
  • Candidates must make sure that they meet the eligibility criteria as if any information is found incorrect at any stage, the candidature will be cancelled.
  • Wards of employees of Tata Group of companies and wards of employees of any government undertaking are NOT ELIGIBLE for the scheme.

The following documents are required to fill the application process:

  • Students’ Aadhaar Card
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • Caste Certificate
  • Mark sheet of the previous examination
  • Residential Certificate
  • BPL card or Income certificates
  • Bank Passbook’s first page having account details (the bank account must be of the applicant)

Tata Steel Jyoti Scholarship Selection Process

The selection for the scholarship scheme is done based on an online test. The test pattern is different for different classes. The details are as under:

For Classes VII and VIII

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will be asked from Mathematics, General Science, Social Science, and English based on the Jharkhand board syllabus.

For College-Level Fellowship

The online test will be conducted only for undergraduate (general stream) courses where Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will be asked from Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, General Studies, and English.

For Other Courses

Selection will be done based on the marks obtained in the previous qualifying exam.
