JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship 2022-23 for Higher Education of Indians
The JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship was established in 1892. The programme has helped more than 5,350 students in pursuing higher education abroad. Under the scholarship scheme, partial financial assistance is provided to Indian students who want to pursue Postgraduate/ Doctoral/ Postdoctoral/ Research studies abroad. The scholarship is available for all fields irrespective of caste, creed, community, or gender. The amount awarded as the loan scholarship ranges between 1 lakh and 10 lakh and does not cover the full cost of studies.
Selected candidates may also be recommended for a ‘Travel Grant’ and a ‘Gift Award’ based on their academic performance. The travel grant can be of a maximum of ₹ 50,000 and the scholarship for a maximum amount of ₹ 7,50,000. What is the Loan Scholarship? The loan scholarship means candidates have to repay the loan within a specified time. The scholarship is offered at a simple interest of 2% per annum. However, if the candidate repays it between the end of the 3rd and 7th year, the Trustees may waive off the interest. If the candidates have started earning before the 3rd year, they can begin repaying their loan. The loan scholarship has to be repaid in five equal instalments of 20%. |

JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship - Eligibility Criteria
Following eligibility criteria are to be fulfilled for applying for the scholarship:
- Candidates should be Indian Nationals.
- Graduate from a recognised Indian University with a minimum of 60% marks.
- Those who are at the beginning of the second year of their overseas studies (Fall 2022 - Spring 2023) are also eligible. It is applicable only if the course is for 2 years.
- Those who are in the final year of the degree course and the result is awaiting are also eligible.
- Candidates not older than 45 years as on 30th June 2022 with good academic record and experience are also eligible.
- J N Tata scholars who have fully repaid their existing loan scholarships are also eligible.
Those who are going abroad for conferences, seminars, and undergraduate studies are not eligible for the J.N. Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship.

All applications for the loan scholarship are to be submitted only through the online mode. Here are the steps to apply.

- Click on the Register link and fill out the form to complete the registration process.
- After the registration is complete, log in using your email ID and password to access the application form.
- Complete the application form.
- Check all the details carefully before the final submission of the application.
JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship - Selection Process
The selection process involves:
Screening of Applications
Screening of applications is based on academic performance, participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS score, and statement of purpose.
Online Test
The online test is based on the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA)
Interview
Those who qualify for the online test will be called for the interview process. The interview will involve an evaluation of candidates’ understanding of their subjects.
After Scholarship Formalities
As per the official website, candidates are required to complete the below-mentioned formalities:
“The candidate and the guarantor (preferably a parent or a relative having the capacity to repay the loan) will have to visit the Administrative Office of the Endowment, by prior appointment, to complete the necessary formalities, after obtaining the visa.”
“They will be required to enter into a legal agreement with the Trustees and provide documentary evidence of the capacity of the guarantor to repay the loan.”
