The Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance mutually collaborate with Nature India and introduced the official platform of the India Science Media Fellowship program for the Indian Journalist who holds a minimum of 3 years of experience in subject writing on science-related issues. The program is open for the experienced journalists who are ready to take challenges and cover the story on Life Sciences, Health, and other Biomedicine subjects. Top 5 students of the country who got selected will receive a fellowship grant of ₹ 100,000. The 2019 scholarship program entices young journalists and enables them to cover science-related problems through this global platform. The last date of online submissions for the program is 28th March 2019. After the deadline, no applications will be entertained.

The contest gateway of the India Science Media Fellowship scheme 2019 is open for the Indian Journalist who is ready to enrich public understanding in the subject of science and its related issues through leads presented by the stories. Under this program, young fellows will be requested to attend a two-day orientation workshop in the premises of New Delhi based institution. Apart from this, they will get the opportunity to discuss topics with communication mentors and experts and trying to conclude solutions on their report. The overall travelling, living, and other accommodations for the two-day orientation workshop will be arranged by the organizing committee of India Science Media Fellowship.

The main objective to launch this scheme is to enable and enrich public understanding in the field of science and other reacted policy issues through leads presented by stories. Moreover, this rising platform helps to establish a strong body of work by broadcasting or publishing stories in their respective media channels.
India Science Fellowship 2019: Themes
Apprentices can choose their story on the relevant subject of life sciences, basic biological research, biomedicine, and health. Participants have to choose one of these subjects for their new items. More than this, media contestants can pursue their research in scientific conferences, laboratories and centres of higher learning during the fellowship program.
India Science Media Fellowship 2019: Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship aims to provide a fellowship aid of ₹ 100,000 to five selected scholars who are selected from thousands of nation-wide applications. The program covers several expenses including field travel, research, and broadcasting the story. Moreover, shortlisted students get an opportunity to attend two days workshop which will be held in New Delhi. Apart from this, students living allowance, travelling cost and other accommodations will be managed by the mentors of the program. Students will receive the benefits in the two instalments:
- The first instalment will be granted to the students at the beginning of the program.
- The second instalment will be contracted after publishing the required number of stories.
Eligibility Criteria of India Science Media Fellowship 2019
For the upcoming session, students need to fulfil the eligibility norms decided by the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance and Nature India as mentioned below-

Professional journalists or freelancers who are working in new media, print or broadcast media in English or any other regional language of India are eligible. |

Experience |
Participating journalists who have at least three years of experience in writing on science and its related issues are eligible to apply. Moreover, a participant who prefers to write in a regional language must be proficient in written in English also. |

Duration of the Fellowship |
The scholarship is available only for Six months in which the participant must complete their submissions. |

Criteria of the Scholarship Program |
Apprentices have to produce at least FIVE stories (each 1000 words or more) on the selected topic. Two short news items (500 words each) will constitute one story, and if a fellow opts to produce only news stories then TEN stories will be required for completion of the fellowship. Similar guidelines will be issued for any selected radio, television or multimedia journalists. |
