Warning! UGC Released 24 Fake Universities List; Warns Students Not to Take Admission

UGC releases a list of 24 fake universities and mentioned them as “Fake with no power to confer degrees”. Check detailed list.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized 24 fake universities across the country and mentioned them as “fake universities with no power to confer degree to the students”. To confirm the news, the commission has published a formal notification on its official website, which provides the names of these fake universities as well as the detailed provisions because of which they have been deemed so. The maximum fake universities are operating from Uttar Pradesh.

With UGC releasing a list of 24 fake universities, shockwaves prevailed across the country. Although these 24 self-styled universities are not entitled to confer any degree, these seem to be quite operational throughout the name. A notice issued by University Grant Commission reads like this, “Students and public at large are informed that at present following 24 self-styled and unrecognised institutions are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act in various parts of the country. These universities have been declared as fake and are not entitled to confer any degrees.”

24 Fake Universities Identified By The University Grant Commission

As per the released notification published by the UGC, a total of 24 universities have been deemed as fake. Of the total number, the maximum numbers of fake universities, i.e. 8, are from Uttar Pradesh. This is followed by Delhi, from where 7 educational institutions have been announced as fake universities. On the other hand, West Bengal has two, while Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra have 1 fake university each as per the official notification.

In 2017, the University Grant Commission had released a list of 22 fake universities. Moreover, UGC had, in November 2017, ordered 123 Deemed-to-be-Universities to omit the word ‘University’ from their names.
