NEET Score Valid for Three Years – MCI Issued Gazette Notice

Last Modified: 31 Oct 2024

The Medical Council of India Board of Governors has released a gazette notification on 14th March 2019 stating that the NEET score will remain valid for three years. The same will be effective from the date of publication on the gazette i.e. 14th March 2019.

In order to introduce the change, the Board of Governors superseded the Medical Council of India with the previous sanction of the Central Government. The amendments have been made to the ‘Screening Test Regulations, 2002’ as under:

“In regulation 4 of the Screening Test Regulations, 2002, under heading “Eligibility Criteria” in Clause 4.2 (A), the following sentence shall be added after the existing provision:

Furthermore, the result of NEET shall be valid for a period of three (3) years from the date of declaration f result, entitling a candidate to pursue MBBS or equivalent medial course including pre-medical/ language course, if any, followed by MBBS or equivalent medical course.

This move will help the medical aspirants who are interested in pursuing MBBS from abroad. Last year, the council had made NEET mandatory for those willing to pursue their medical education from abroad.

The Notification further states, “These regulations may be called the “Eligibility Requirement for Taking Admission in an Undergraduate Medical Course in a Foreign Medical Institution (Amendment) Regulation, 2019.” Till now, the NEET score was valid only for one year.

NEET, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is an entrance examination which is conducted once a year for admission to undergraduate medical programmes viz. MBBS and BDS. The score is applicable to all the medical/dental institutions across the country except AIIMS and JIPMER. These institutes organize their own MBBS entrance examinations.

The NEET UG 2019 exam is scheduled to be held on 5th May 2019 and the admit card for the same will be available from 15th April 2019. Candidates who have applied for the exam can download the admit card from the official NEET website.
