This year, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, will conduct the IIT JAM exam on 12th February 2023, as per the officials.

Since 2004-05, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have been organizing JAM (Joint Admission Test for Masters) to offer admission to various postgraduate (two years) programs such as M.Sc-Ph.D, Joint M.Sc-Ph.D., Masters, Dual Degree, etc. at IISc and IITs. To study at these elite institutions, the best in the country, students need to clear the JAM exam. PG aspirants need to crack the exam to get exposure to state-of-the-art laboratories, modern libraries, and well-equipped campuses. Mathematical Methods: Partial Derivatives, Calculus of single and multiple variables, Jacobian, Taylor expansion, imperfect and perfect differentials, Fourier series. Vector algebra, Vector Calculus, Divergence theorem, Multiple integrals, Stokes’ theorem, and Green’s theorem. matrices and determinants, algebra of complex numbers, first-order equations, and linear second-order differential equations with constant coefficients.

Understanding the Syllabus: The IIT JAM syllabus is vast and it is necessary for the candidates to analyze the syllabus properly and prepare for the exam only as per the syllabus. It is advised to avoid studying irrelevant topics. Just stick to the syllabus.

Time Management with Effective Time Table: After analyzing the syllabus, make a study plan/timetable. Keep more time for difficult topics. Also, keep a break between the study sessions.

Understand the Concepts: Understanding the concepts and logic behind them. It will help solve any type of question, from simple to complex. Mugging up topics do not help in the long run. You can consider mugging up if you find any topic too difficult to understand.

Practice Previous Year Question Papers and Mock Tests: Solving previous years’ question papers help in understanding the pattern, type of questions, difficulty level, etc. Previous years’ question papers also help in analyzing the preparation level. Candidates must also appear for mock tests to improve their accuracy and time management skills.

Revision: Revision is the key to remembering things. If you don’t revise the topics studied yesterday, you will forget them. So, revise daily and also make notes of important things while studying. These notes help in the last-minute revision.

IIT JAM Exam 2023 Eligibility

Only the best of the best get through IIT JAM. To filter out the most intelligent students, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, will conduct the Joint Admission Test for Masters. on 12th February 2023. If you satisfy the following eligibility requirements, submit the online application form before 14th October 2022. However, it is the sole responsibility of the students to provide accurate information.

At any stage, the Admitting Institute can cancel the admission procedure of a student if he is found ineligible for the course. Hence, fill out the admission form only if you satisfy the Eligibility Requirements (ER) and Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) for Admission.

Nationality –

Both Indian and foreign students can apply for JAM 2023.

Academic Requirements –

  • The candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • The minimum passing marks in the qualifying degree should be 55% (5.5 CGPA out of 10) for General/OBC category students and 50% (5 CGPA out of 10) for the SC/ST/PWD category students.
  • Candidates must submit the Bachelor’s Degree certificates and meet the Minimum Eligibility Qualifications.
  • They must submit a physical fitness certificate at the time of admission. The fitness certificate should be drawn in a prescribed form from a registered medical practitioner.
  • The Admitting Institute will make the aspirants undergo a medical test, which will basically be a physical fitness test. A medical board appointed by AI will carry out this activity.
  • Physically unfit students will be denied admission.

Age Limit –

  • The Institute prescribes no upper age limit.

IIT JAM Exam 2023 Application Process

The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, has activated the online application process JOAPS for the IIT JAM 2023 entrance exam for all eligible applicants. Important Points

  • Candidates must submit only one application form. Multiple applications will be rejected.
  • Please ensure to pay the fee as per your category, gender, and test paper option. If the fee is not paid as per the criteria, the application form will be rejected.
  • After the final submission, no changes will be allowed in the application form. Thus, candidates must check the JAM application form carefully before final submission.
  • If candidates decide to change the test paper after submission of the application but before the last date of application submission, they can change the test paper/ add additional paper. In such cases, an additional fee is charged. The details of the additional fee are provided under the ‘Application Fee’ section.

How to Apply for IIT JAM 2023

  • Visit - https://jam.iitr.ac.in/.
  • Look for the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS).
  • Register on the JOAPS website by entering details like the name of the candidate, active mobile number, valid email ID and password.
  • Upon successful registration, a system-generated Enrolment ID will be sent to the registered email ID and mobile number.
  • Preserve the Enrolment ID and password for future communications related to JAM 2023.
  • Upload the scanned copies of documents such as signature, photograph, category certificates and PWD certificate (if applicable), etc.
  • Release the exam fee through credit card, debit card, and net banking.
  • Check the status of the online JAM application form (Defect Status, Under Scrutiny, Received, Admit Card Ready for Download, Rejected with Valid Reasons, Status after Rectification, etc.)

Note: “Candidates are discouraged from making the application through a third person.”

Application Scrutiny and Rectification

  • After the final submission, all the applications are scrutinized to verify the details entered, photograph, signature, and documents uploaded.
  • If all the details are in order, the application is accepted. However, if any defects/ errors are found in the application, they are marked and intimated to the candidates through email or SMS.
  • Candidates are required to make the necessary changes within the given time period.
  • After rectification, the applications are re-scrutinized and the status of the application is updated.
  • Candidates can check the status of their application anytime by logging in to JOAPS.
  • If any candidate fails to rectify the errors within the given time, his application will be rejected.
  • No further requests will be entertained in this regard.

JAM 2023 Application Correction Window

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee – the JAM 2023 organizing institute – has allowed candidates to change the application form.
  • The window to make edits was open till 30th November 2022.
  • As a one-time facility, candidates who have already registered themselves successfully for JAM 2023 exam will be allowed to make some changes to their application form to ensure that there is no discrepancy in official documents later on.
  • As part of the application correction process, candidates will be able to make changes to the test city or exam city preference options completely free of charge.
  • Apart from this, candidates will be able to add an extra test paper and change their gender, category and PWD status to their application form by paying a certain amount of fee.

Steps to make changes to JAM 2023 Application Form

Candidates can make changes to their application form, by logging onto the official website and by following the step-by-step process provided below:

  1. Open the official site link i.e., jam.iitr.ac.in.
  2. Find and click on the link JOAPS portal.
  3. Log onto the JOAPS portal using your registered login credentials.

JAM 2023 Admit Card

  • Candidates can access the IIT JAM admit card 2023 from 14th January 2023. 
  • It will be available online mode.
  • To download the hall ticket, they must use the given Enrolment ID or Email ID and Password.
  • Carry the hard copy of the hall ticket along with a valid Photo ID proof (original) at the time of appearing for the exam.

Note: Use login credentials to obtain and download the released admit card. The admit cards will not be sent by email or post to any candidate. Do check all the entries in the admit card for discrepancies. In case of any discrepancies, candidates must inform the same to Organising Chairman, the IIT Roorkee.

How to Download IIT JAM Admit Card 2023 online?

The IIT JAM 2023 admit cards can be downloaded easily by the candidates by following the detailed downloading instructions listed below:

Step 1: Visit the official exam portal, i.e., jam.iitr.ac.in.

Step 2: Click on the Link for JOAPS Portal from the home page – ‘JAM 2023 Admit Cards are now available for download from the JOAPS portal’.

Step 3: Log onto the portal using your registered credentials - your Enrolment ID/ Email ID, Password (case sensitive), and answer the arithmetic expression.

Step 4: Click on the “Submit” button. Your IIT JAM admits card 2023 will be displayed on the screen.

Step 5: Download the hall ticket in PDF format and save it on your device.

Step 6: Take a printout of the admit card for future reference.

After downloading, candidates need to take a printout of the IIT JAM to admit card and carry it to the allotted exam center along with an original copy of the valid ID proof. It may be noted that candidates not carrying their admit card or ID proof at the time of the exam might not be allowed to appear for the exam.

If a candidate cannot download his/ her admit card, he/ she needs to contact the Chairman JAM of the IIT/ IISc – under which the first choice of test city falls – through phone/ fax/ email. While contacting, the candidate should provide his/ her “online enrolment ID, name, email ID, mobile number, mailing address, and city code of the desired test center (first choice) to get information about the registration number and the name of the test center allotted.

IIT JAM Mock Test 2023

  • The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, has activated the link for the mock test of IIT JAM 2023.
  • Candidates who had successfully registered for the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test can now practice for the same by visiting the official website, i.e., jam.iitr.ac.in.
  • Candidates can practice for the national-level entrance examination conducted by IIT Roorkee as many times as required.
  • The default login facility for IIT JAM Mock Test 2023 enables the test takers to attempt the mock test as often as they want.

Candidates are required to use their login credentials to access the admit card. The candidates will not be sent a hard copy of the scorecard by post or any other offline mode.

JAM Cut-off 2023

IIT JAM Counselling 2023 (Admission Form)

Students who have qualified for the IIT JAM 2023 exam will require to submit their applications for the IIT JAM counselling 2023. Those whose names appear in the merit list (only the qualifying students) will be considered eligible to fill out the online JAM admission form. The admission fee that needs to be paid is ₹ 600/-. The complete IIT JAM 2023 admission process will be commenced online at the official portal of JOAPS.

Counselling Process

  • After taking into consideration the choices filled by the candidates and their merit rank, the Release Date for the First Admission list is yet to be announced. Candidates are required to submit the acceptance form along with the seat booking fee (₹ 10,000/- for General/ OBC-NCL/EWS and ₹ 5000/- for SC/ST/PwD) online.
  • If the seats remain vacant after the first round, the second admission list is prepared and released by the organizing institute. Candidates are again required to submit the acceptance letter and make fee payments.
  • The third and final round of counselling is conducted only if the seats are still vacant. The third admission list will be released soon on the official website. The advance seat booking fee is to be submitted to confirm the seat.
