The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, conducts the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) for admission to Master of Design (MDes) programs offered at IISc Bangalore, IIT Delhi, Bombay, Hyderabad, Roorkee, Kanpur, Guwahati, and IIITDM Jabalpur and Ph.D. programs offered at several IITs and design schools. The entrance exam assesses the candidates on drawing skills, visual perception ability, creativity, communication, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Syllabus for CEED 2023
There is no specific syllabus, textbook, or guide for exam preparation. However, candidates can prepare from the previous years’ question papers available on the official website.
Part A Topics
Visualization and Spatial Ability: Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test the understanding of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
Environmental and Social Awareness: General awareness of environmental factors (such as climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, and natural resources) and their implications on the design of products, images, infrastructure and environment. Awareness of design terminologies, social and cultural connection with the design, history of the designed artifact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. History of art, sculpture and literature.
Analytical and Logical Reasoning: Ability to analyze given information logically and select the most appropriate solutions; ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria; ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question.
Language and Creativity: Ability to understand passages in commonly used English language; ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives; ability to distinguish innovative options and think out of the box.
Design Thinking and Problem Solving: Ability to understand the context, the users, and the constraints and select the most appropriate solution for a given design problem.
Observation and Design Sensitivity: Ability to detect concealed properties in day-to-day life and think critically about them. Ability to discern subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.
Part B Topics
Drawing: Ability to draw products, people, or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
Creativity: Ability to think out of the box and come up with unique as well as diverse solutions. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate concepts and ideas clearly with the help of text and visuals.
Problem Identification Skills: Ability to understand the user and the context, knowledge of properties of materials, and their appropriate use in design.
CEED Exam 2023 Eligibility
Candidates must check out the CEED eligibility criteria before applying for the exam. The details are mentioned below:
Educational Qualification (as of July 2023)
- Must have completed a degree/diploma/postgraduate degree course (minimum THREE years) after 10+2 level.
- Those appearing in the final exam of such a course are also eligible to apply.
Age Limit
- There is no age limit to appear for the CEED exam.
CEED Exam 2023 Application Process
The application form for CEED 2023 will be accepted only through online mode. It is advised to submit the form well before the last date. There is the provision of submitting the application with a late fee amount. Candidates will be provided with a facility to select three exam centers while filling out the application form. Detailed steps for application submission are as under:
Documents to be Uploaded
The following documents are to be uploaded while filling out the CEED application form:
- Scanned image of recent colored passport-size photograph in .jpg format.
- Scanned images of signature in .jpg format.
- Scanned image of degree/ diploma certificate in.pdf format.
- Category certificate (format given in official notification)
- PwD certificate (format given in official notification)
- Request letter by PwD category candidate who needs a scribe/ compensatory time
- Scanned images of supporting documents for change in name (marriage certificate or passport)
Steps for CEED 2023 Application Submission
- Visit the official website at http://www.ceed.iitb.ac.in/2023/.
- Click the ‘Apply’ button on the home page.
- You will be redirected to the online registration portal. Click the ‘Register’ button.
- Enter your email ID and click the ‘Register’ button.
- After registration, the application number will be generated.
- Login using the application number and password.
- Complete the application form with details related to educational qualification, address, exam city choices, etc.
- Upload the required documents.
- Make the application fee payment.
- After successful fee payment, take a print of the confirmation page.

The application fee is to be paid using a Debit card/ Credit card/ Net banking. Processing fees and bank charges are to be paid by the candidate in addition to the above-mentioned fee. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

CEED 2023 Admit Card
- CEED 2022]3 admit cards will be released online at the official website.
- Candidates will be able to download the admit cards from 13th January 2023 onwards till the exam day.
- Login using your credentials and take a clear print of the admit card.
- In case of any discrepancies in the Admit Card details, report to the authority by 17th January 2023.
- Carry the admit card along with a valid photo ID proof (original) to the exam center.
CEED 2023 Answer Key
- The officials will release the provisional answer key for CEED 2023 on 24th January 2022.
- Objections can be raised against the answer key till 26th January 2023.
- The final answer key will be released after considering the objections.
- The result will be prepared based on the final answer key.
CEED 2023 Result
- CEED 2023 results will be released on the official website in the form of a scorecard.
- Candidates will be able to access their scorecards using their login credentials.
- No hard copies of the scorecards will be sent to any candidate.
- Part-A marks are mentioned for all candidates, and Part-B marks are mentioned only for the shortlisted candidates.
- The shortlisted candidates will also get a rank.
