The Common Admission Test (CAT) is considered one of the most competitive examinations that assess a student's Intelligence quotient, scholastic aptitude, and problem-solving skills for admission to MBA courses. It is a national-level examination conducted by 20 IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) on a rotational basis. Apart from IIMs, the CAT score is accepted for admission in more than 100 management institutions.

The candidates appearing in the Common Admission Test will face 48 MCQs and 18 non-MCQs, carrying 198 marks. Questions will be asked from 3 important sections -

CAT Exam 2022 Eligibility
Educational Qualification -
- An applicant must hold a Bachelor's Degree with 50% marks (SC/ST/PWD candidates must possess 45% marks)
- If a candidate is in the final year or is waiting for the results, he is eligible for the exam. If selected, such candidates need to produce a certificate from the Principal of their Institution, which would state that they are eligible for obtaining the Degree or equivalent certificate.
- In case an applicant has done professional courses like ICWA, CS, CA, etc., with the required percentage (50%), he is certainly eligible for the entrance test.

Age Qualification: There is no age limit for appearing in the Common Admission Test 2022.
Note: The Indian Institutes of Management may verify the eligibility of the candidates at any stage of the selection procedure. Hence, the aspirants are suggested to maintain a valid and active email ID and a phone number throughout the entire selection process for hassle-free communication.

CAT Exam 2022 Application Process
CAT 2022 registration started on 3rd August and will continue till the 14th of September 2022. The application process will entirely be online. Interested candidates are suggested to visit the official web portal of CAT with all the essential documents such as scanned copies of signature, photograph, mark sheets of Class X, XII, Bachelor’s Degree, etc. The registration process is done in three steps –
- CAT registration
- Log in using the system-generated user ID and password
- Filling in CAT application form 2022
How to Fill CAT Application Form 2022
It comprises five important sections such as – Personal Details, Academics, Work Experience, Programs and Payment.
- Personal Details: Here, the applicants need to provide details like their complete name, parent’s name, nationality, category, gender and address. They need to upload the scanned images of their signature, photograph and caste certificate.
- Academics: Provide your academic details right from class X to master. The details should include the exam name, University or Board, maximum marks, marks obtained, etc.
- Work Experience: Have you worked full-time? If so, you need to enter the details right here. Remember, candidates with “only full-time experience after graduation” are advised to enter the details.
- Programs: Select your programs and the Interview City name.
- Payment: Payment would be made online. General category candidates have to pay INR 2,200/-. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will pay INR 1,100/-.

CAT Exam 2022 Other Details
CAT Admit Card 2022
- The concerned IIM will release the Common Admission Test (CAT 2022) admit card on the official website by 27th of October 2022.
- The last date to download and get a printout of the admit card will be the CAT exam date.
- Candidates can log in at the official website with their registered ID and password to download the admit card.
- It is mandatory to carry the admit card to the examination venue for making entry to the examination hall.

CAT Exam Day Instructions
- The candidates must carry two copies of the CAT 2022 admit card and a photo ID proof (original and photocopy).
- Only CAT 2022 admit cards & photo ID cards will be allowed inside the exam hall.
- A writing pad and pen will be provided for rough work, to be returned after the test. The candidates will be required to write their name and registration number on the writing pad.
- The candidates must reach the CAT exam center before reporting time to complete the identification process. Candidates should report at 7:30 AM for the morning session, at 11.30 AM for the afternoon session, and at 3:30 PM for the evening session.
- Use the Reference Number printed on the admit card to identify the door/wing/lab at the test venue on the day of the test.
- The candidates are not supposed to sign their CAT admit card beforehand. The admit card is to be signed only inside the exam hall in front of the invigilator.
- The candidates must affix their photo (same as the one uploaded with the application form) on the admit card.
- Mobile phones, calculators, IPad or any other gadget is prohibited inside the examination hall.
- The candidates are advised not to carry bags or luggage to the CAT 2022 exam center as you may not find any provision to keep it safe.
- Jewelry that contains metal, clothes with pockets, jackets and footwear are prohibited inside the exam hall.
- Candidates with a metal implant, pacemaker, etc., in their body, will be required to bring medical certificates of the same.
CAT Result 2022
The result of CAT 2022 exam will be uploaded to the official website of the concerned IIM tentatively in January 2023. Candidates can obtain their CAT 2022 scorecard by using the below-guided steps:
- Open the official CAT 2022 website.
- The result link of CAT 2022 will be available on the screen, just click and open it.
- Enter all the asked credentials and access the scorecard of the CAT 2022 exam.
Note: The CAT score will be valid for 1 year.
After the announcement of the CAT result, the list of selected candidates will be published on the website of the respective IIMs, and Interview letters will be sent to the selected candidates. The second phase of selection includes Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interviews (PI).

Each candidate’s CAT scorecard will contain the following details:

The candidates must note that the CAT scorecards can be downloaded only from the official CAT website and will remain available for a specified time. The hard copy of the CAT result will not be issued. Hence the candidates must download a copy of their scorecard before the download window closes.
CAT Cut-off 2022
Candidates who will qualify CAT 2022 exam can view the CAT 2022 cut-offs offered by the IIMs and non-IIM member institutions. After the declaration of the cutoff percentile, candidates will be required to apply for the Written Ability Test and Personal Interview round of IIMs.
The minimum cut-off marks for all the IIM institutes are 90 percentile of the candidates. However, those who are not able to fulfill this criterion can apply for other non-IIM institutes that also accept CAT scorecards. The list is as follows:

What After CAT 2022 Result?
After the declaration of the CAT result, the IIMs will invite candidates for Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. The candidates who will meet the minimum cut-off set for shortlisting for this round will be required to apply on the official website of the IIMs they selected in the CAT application form for admission. Thereafter, the institutes will shortlist candidates on their overall and sectional CAT percentile and academic record.
The IIM admission process consists of three stages. Given below is a brief description of the IIM admission process:
- Screening of candidates on the basis of CAT score and academic history
- Written Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (WAT/GD-PI) round
- Final selection of the candidates
The final selection of the candidates for the 2023-2025 MBA batch will be done on the basis of various parameters such as CAT score, academic history, work experience, academic diversity, gender diversity, and performance in WAT/GD-PI.
