About the Architecture
Architecture is a flourishing career today. In a hugely populated country like India, habitations are sprouting up at a fast pace. Besides habitations market, shopping malls, cinema hall, school, colleges etc. are getting build up every day. It has created a huge requirement for architects in the nation.
The term ‘architecture’ connotes especially to the planning, designing and creation of the architectural structures. An architect imagines a spatial design, draws structures, make estimation and then finally executes its construction. Architecture is a science as well as art. An architect should have professional skills like spatial analytical skills, problem-solving skills, decision-making ability, capacity to lead the team, good numerical ability and IT skills.
Course Duration
It is a comprehensive course spanning around 5 years. It comprises of 10 semesters. The course is conducted in 2 stages. In the first stage, 3 years course is conducted in which around 4 months of practical training is given. Thereafter in the second stage, 2 years course is conducted in which once again 4 months of practical training is given to provide a better understanding of concepts to students. After the completion of the 5 years course, a student can get himself or herself enrolled as a practising architect under the Architect Registration act of 1972. Those students who complete only the first stage of the course are not eligible to get registered under the aforesaid act.
Eligibility
A student should have passed the 12th class with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks. He or she should also have mathematics as one of the subjects.
Admission
The COA (Council of Architecture) conducts NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) for providing admission in various colleges/institutes of Architecture. The National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture, Pune is entrusted with the responsibility to conduct the NATA exam.
During admission, the NATA score and the last passing exam score are given 50:50 weightage. Once students get enrolled in the B.Arch course, a list is prepared and sent to the COA containing details about students.
