What after class 12th? This is the most common and daunting question asked from students or which keeps running in their mind even before they reach class 12th. Earlier, there were some limited options such as engineering, medical, teaching, banking, etc. which most of the students used to follow. However, with time, a lot of other options have emerged. CBSE’s Initiative for Skill-Based Courses

If you are planning to pursue a vocational course, you must go for it as it is the need of the hour. Every year, the country is giving lakhs of graduates who are lacking industry-skills due to the structure of traditional courses. Thus, the government is emphasising on skill development programmes for the youth. In a recent initiative, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the students from classes 6 to 11 under the board will be studying skill-based courses from the academic year 2020-21.

CBSE Vocational Courses (Classes 6 to 11)

All CBSE affiliated schools are directed to introduce the vocational courses in the following three levels:

  • Middle level - For classes VI to VIII - 9 courses
  • Secondary level - For classes IX and X - 18 courses
  • Senior Secondary level - For classes XI and XII - 37 courses

These courses will be of short duration. CBSE was already offering vocational courses in class XI and XII.

Schools will be required to pay an affiliation fee for offering skill-based courses at the senior secondary level. However, no such fee will be charged for middle and secondary levels.
