SSC JHT Eligibility - Nationality, Age Limit, and Qualification

SSC JHT 2022 notification will be released on 20th July 2022. However, candidates are advised to carry on with their preparation for the SSC JHT exam. It is advised to check the eligibility before starting your preparation. Thus, here are the age limit, age relaxation, educational qualification, and other details related to the SSC JHT eligibility. Make sure you are eligible for the Junior Hindi Translator Exam.

SSC JHT Eligibility

Nationality

A candidate must either be:

  • An Indian citizen or
  • A subject of Bhutan or
  • A subject of Nepal or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 to permanently settle in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire, Vietnam, and Ethiopia to permanently settle in India.

Age Limit

The age limit for JHT should not be exceeding 30 years as on 1st January 2023 for the 2022 recruitment.

Relaxation in the upper age limit is provided to reserved category candidates as under:

Note: Date of Birth as recorded in the Matriculation/ Secondary Examination Certificate or equivalent Certificate only will be accepted for determining the age limit.

Age relaxation will not be applicable for sons, daughters, and dependents of Ex-Servicemen. Therefore, such candidates must not indicate their category as Ex-Servicemen.

SSC JHT Qualification

Different educational qualifications are required for different posts in the SSC JHT exam. The details are as under:

Senior Hindi Translator in Central Government Ministries/ Offices/ Departments

Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a compulsory subject at Bachelor’s degree level

and

Diploma/ Certificate in translation from Hindi to English & vice-versa or three years’ experience of translation work from Hindi to English & vice-versa in Central or State Government Office.

Junior Translator/ Junior Hindi Translator/ Junior Translator in CSOLS/ Junior Translator in Armed Forces Headquarters/ Junior Translator in M/o Railways in subordinate offices

Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a compulsory subject at the degree level

and

Diploma or Certificate in translation from Hindi to English & vice-versa or two years experience of translation work from Hindi to English & vice-versa in Central or State Government Office.

Hindi Pradhyapak in Central Hindi Training Institute

Bachelor’s degree in Hindi with English as one of the subjects at degree level (compulsory or optional) and a Master’s degree in any subject and Bachelor of Education from a recognized University.

Desirable - Two years of experience teaching Hindi at the Senior Secondary level under Central or State government.

SSC JHT Syllabus

The SSC JHT syllabus is prescribed by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). Candidates can download the syllabus from the official notification. The exam comprises two papers. Paper-1 has two sections - General Hindi and General English, while Paper-2 comprises Translation and Essay questions.

Paper-1 Syllabus: Reading Comprehension, Phrases and Idioms, Synonyms and Antonyms, Use of Correct use of Words, Spelling Test, etc.

Paper-2 Syllabus: Passage Translation and Essay

SSC JHT Notification

As per the SSC Annual Calendar, the SSC JHT notification for 2022 recruitment is scheduled to be released on 20th July 2022. Aspirants are advised to keep up their preparations for the exam and track the official website for the latest updates.
