SSC CGL 2021-22 – Exam Pattern and Syllabus
In a recent survey conducted by ExamsPlanner where we asked more than 200 students in Delhi/NCR about their career aims. We were pretty surprised to find that over 70% of participants showed their interest in taking SSC exams and becoming government employees. And obviously, why wouldn’t they dream? Because the Staff Selection Commission conducts various examinations like SSC CGL, SSC MTS, SSC JE, SSC SI CAPF and SSC CHSL that pave the way toward various coveted government jobs.
SSC CGL exam is undoubtedly one of the highly sought-after examinations conducted for recruitment of Divisional Accountant, Assistant Accounts Officer, Jr. Statistical Officer, Assistant Section Officer, Sub-Inspector, Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner), Assistant Enforcement Officer, Auditor, Assistant Audit Officer, Inspector of Posts, Accountant/Jr Accountant, Sr. Secretariat Assistant, Assistants Inspector Assistant/Superintendent Inspector (Central Excise) and Tax Assistant.
The SSC CGL 2022 Tier II and III exam will be conducted in August 2022. The Staff Selection Commission released the SSC CGL 2021-22 official notification on 23rd December 2021. The last date to apply for the SSC CGL exam was 23rd January 2022.
SSC CGL 2022 Exam Pattern -
The exam will be conducted in 4 tiers or stages –
- SSC CGL Exam 2022 Tier I is an online test where candidates will get objective multiple choice type questions
- SSC CGL Exam 2022 Tier II is an online test where candidates will get objective multiple choice type questions
- SSC CGL Exam 2022 III is a pen and paper-based test. Students will get descriptive type questions in Hindi and English
- SSC CGL Exam 2022 IV is a computer skill test. This will check the candidates’ proficiency in computers.
SSC CGL Exam 2022 Tier I Exam Pattern -
There is a negative marking scheme for every wrong answer. 0.50 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

SSC CGL Exam 2022 Tier IV Exam Pattern -
Tier-IV is a computer skill test. It will put the candidates through a computer test process that will be done in two phases – Computer Proficiency Test and Data Entry Skill Test.
Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)
For the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise & Income Tax), the data entry speed must be at 8000 key depression per hour on the computer. The test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 key depressions for a duration of 15 minutes. The test is of qualifying nature.
Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)
Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) comprises three modules - Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Generation of Slides. The test is conducted for the posts of Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA & AFHQAssistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines, Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Officer (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Central Excise) & Inspector (Examiner) in CBIC.

Tier I
General Intelligence & Reasoning - Problem-Solving, Coding-Decoding, Arithmetic Reasoning, Semantic Analogy, Number Classification, Critical Thinking, Word Building, Number Series, Emotional Intelligence, Venn Diagrams, Social Intelligence.
General Awareness - Questions related to India and its neighbouring countries pertaining to General Policy, History, Geography, Culture, Economic Scene, Scientific Research.
Quantitative Aptitude - Numbers, Percentage, Average, Mixture and Alligation, Interest, Discount, Profit and Loss, Circles, Triangles, Time and Distance, Histogram, Bar and Pie Chart.
English Comprehension - Read the comprehension and related questions.
Tier II
Quantitative Abilities - Whole numbers, Ratio, Profit and Loss, Triangle, Circles, Basic Algebraic Identities, Heights and Distances, Time and Distance, Circle and its Chords, Graphs of Linear Equations, Bar & Pie chart.
English Language and Comprehension - Comprehension, Spelling/ Misspelled words, Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases, One Word Substitution, Cloze Test, Spot the Error.
Statistics - Presentation of Statistical Data, Measure of Dispersion, Measures of Central Tendency, Sampling Theory, Moments, Skewness and Kurtosis, Time Series Analysis, Correlation and Regression, Index Numbers.
General Studies (Finance and Economics)
Finance - Financial accounting and Basic Concepts of Accounting.
Economics - Finance Commission - Role and Functions, Indian Economy, Theory of Demand and Supply, Economic Reforms in India, Indian Economy, Money and Banking.
