Minority Communities Covered Under the Pre-Matric 2020-2021 Scholarship

The following communities are covered under this scholarship scheme –

Muslim, Parsi, Christian, Zoroastrian, Buddhist and Jain notified under the National Minority Act 1992.

Areas covered under the Pre – Matric Scholarship

• The scholarship is extended all over India. Students belonging to the minority community residing in any State/ UT (Union Territory) are eligible to avail benefits under this scholarship scheme.
• The distribution of the scholarship among all states is made on the basis of the ratio of the minority population in the particular State/ UT. The Population Census of 2001 is considered for making the distribution of the scholarship.

Educational Institutions Covered Under the Pre-Matric 2017-2018 Scholarship Scheme

This national minority scholarship can be availed by the students for studying in any government or private school/ institutions for obtaining the Pre–Matric 2020-21 scholarship. Even the government residential schools/ institutions are also covered under this scholarship scheme.

Reservation for Minority Girls

There is reservation in the total number of the scholarships for the minority girls. The 30% of the total number of the scholarship is reserved for the minority girl students. If the numbers of the girl applicants are lesser than the total allocated number of the scholarships then the scholarships will be transferred to the minority boy applicants.

Benefits of the Pre-Matric Scholarship 

This is a fully–funded scholarship. Under this scholarship scheme, the beneficiary students get admission fee, tuition fee and maintenance allowance for 10 months annually.

For students from Class 1 to Class 5 –

Maintenance Allowance

• Hostellers – The hostellers do not receive any maintenance allowance.
• Day Scholars – They get ₹ 100 per month annually.

For students from Class 6 to Class 10 –

Hostellers

• Admission Fee – They receive ₹ 500 or the actual fee.
• Tuition Fee – They receive ₹ 350 or the actual fee.

Day Scholars

• Admission Fee – They receive ₹ 500 or the actual fee.
• Tuition Fee – They receive ₹ 350 or the actual fee.

Maintenance Allowance

• Hostellers – They get ₹ 600 on the monthly basis.
• Day Scholars – They get ₹ 100 on the monthly basis.

Duration of the Post-Matric  Scholarship

The scholarship is given for the complete duration of the studies.

Eligibility for the NSP Post- Matric Scholarship 2020-21

• The applicant should have a minimum aggregate score of 50% marks in the previous final exam.
• The annual family income (including all sources) of the applicant should not exceed ₹ 1.00 lakh.
• Must be studying in class 1^st to 10^th.
• Must belong to the minority community (Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians/Parsis).

Other Conditions of Eligibility for the Pre–Matric Scholarship Scheme

• The total numbers of the Pre- Matric scholarships are limited. Hence, the chances of the renewal of the scholarships are limited. Applicants should apply before the last date of the application.
• The applicant should score 50% aggregate marks in the annual exam to continue to avail benefits under this scholarship scheme.
• In case, the applicant happens to be a meritorious student but due to any unavoidable circumstances was unable to score minimum marks, then it should be certified by the Principal/Head of the school.
• Maximum two students of a family can avail the Pre – Matric scholarship.
• The applicant should be a regular student with a good attendance record.
•  The student should get transferred from one school to another, during the course of the academic year.
• The applicant should not be availing any other scholarship.
• He/ she should not violate any code of the school discipline.

Method of the Scholarship Transfer

• This is a wholly centrally-funded scholarship scheme which is administered by the State/ UT government. Hence, each State/ UT lays their own procedure for the administration of the Pre – Matric Scholarship Programme. Students should keep themselves updated about this procedure.
• The admission –fee and tuition-fee will be credited into the bank account of the school/ administration account for the beneficiary students.
• The maintenance allowances will be sent directly to the bank account of the beneficiary student.
• It is the responsibility of every State/ UT government to keep the detailed record of the beneficiary students and the procedure followed by them for giving scholarships to the students. It is subject to be cross-checked or inspected by the Central government.
• The Central government has the discretionary power to amend any procedure or law related to this scholarship programme.
• It is instructed to every State/ UT government to update all record relating to the Pre- Matric Scholarship 2020 – 2021 on their website.

How Can Your Apply For The Scheme?

Interested minority students can apply for the Pre –Matric scholarship scheme online through National Scholarship Portal by following these useful steps.

1. Visit the NSP official website.
2. On the home page, click on the Central schemes and select “Ministry of Minority Affairs”.
3. Now, click on the scholarship link and read all the guidelines and important dates.
4. After this, click on the “New Registration” window and complete your registration by entering the right details.
5. Start filling the form and upload all the asked documents and submit your application.

Important Documents Need To Submit

• Domicile Certificate
• Self-certified community certificate by the student
• Self-attested copy of previous academic mark sheet
• Copy of Aadhar Enrollment/Aadhar Card
• Income certificate issued by a competent authority in the State/UT Government
• Proof of bank account in the name of the student or joint account with mother/father

Criteria of Selection –

For Fresh Applicant: Weightage will be given according to the financial need of the applicant rather than the marks obtained. In case the family income and the marks of the two applicants are the same, the result will be generated according to the ‘Date of Birth’ and preference will be given to the senior applicant.

For Renewal: The scholar will be eligible for the renewal of the scholarship if obtained 50% in the previous year’s examinations in the same course and at the same institute.

The State/ UT governments are instructed to announce the names of the selected beneficiary students within the stipulated time – period. The list of the students should be published in the major national dailies, popular or vernacular newspapers. Announcements of the result should also be made through the radio or other feasible mediums.
