CBSE, NTA – What’s the Confusion about NEET 2019?
- Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was the exam conducting authority.
- To relieve the Board from its duties, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi formed a new agency, i.e. the National Testing Agency, which is assigned with a wide range of responsibilities including regulating the NEET exam and releasing the NEET score.
- On 8 July 2018, the Union Education Minister Prakash Javadekar released a Press Release which stated that from the academic year 2019 onwards, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination would be administered twice in a year and the mode of the exam would be online.
- On 21 August 2018, Mr Javadekar made it clear that the Agency would regulate the medical entrance test in the offline mode. Instead of two times, it would be held just once.
