JEE Main 2021: Important Dates, Eligibility, Registration Process, Pattern & Syllabus
The Joint Entrance Exam Main is conducted for admission to B.E/ B. Tech and B.Arch/ B.Planning courses. JEE Main is the eligibility test for NITs and CFTIs. The candidates who qualify for the Main exam can appear in the JEE Advanced 2021 for admission into IITs and ISM.
JEE Main 2021 Schedule (Announced)
For the first time, the National Testing Agency administered the Joint Entrance Examination Main in 2019 in two sessions (January and April). However, from the year 2021, the exam is being conducted in 4 sessions. Interested candidates can take the test 4 times in a year and the Agency will make the merit list based on the best score of these exams for admission to undergraduate programmes such as Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Architecture or Bachelor of Planning.

JEE Main 2021 New Changes
Some of the notable changes brought in the JEE Main w.e.f. 2019 are -
- The class 12th marks will not be accountable while calculating the All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main.
- The general candidates must have at least 75% marks to qualify for the admission process to IITs, NITs, and CFTIs. For the SC/ST candidates, it is 65%.
- Candidates must possess the Aadhaar Card to fill-up the form.
- Candidates from Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Assam can provide passport number/ration card number/bank account number or any other govt verified identity number.
- The exam will be conducted in the CBT mode.
- There will be 3,000 practice training centres to be set up across the nation at various colleges and institutes.
- The total number of exam centres is 258 (including 10 international venues).
- An aspirant can appear for all the sessions - February, March, April, and May.

Aptitude Test Syllabus
PART 1:
Awareness of places, persons, Texture and objects related to Architecture and building environment, buildings and materials, Visualising 3D objects from 2D drawings, Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical and Verbal), Visualising different sides of 3D objects, Analytical Reasoning.
PART 2:
Three dimensional – perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, contrast and harmony. Drawing and designing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil, colour texture, building forms and elements, Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation, development of surface & volumes, Generation of Plan, Creating 2D and 3D compositions using given shapes and forms, Elevations and 3 D views of objects, Sketching of scenes & activities from memory of urbanscapes (public space, festivals, markets, street scenes, recreational spaces, monuments, etc.), landscape (gardens, trees, riverfronts, jungles, plants etc.) and rural life.
For B.Arch course in IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur, the candidates have to appear for AAT (Aptitude Awareness Test). |

Eligibility for JEE Main 2021
- Date of Birth: There is no age limit for appearing in the JEE Main exam.
- Educational Qualification: The aspirants must have passed the 12th standard examination from a recognised central or state board.
- Subjects: Among the five subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects are compulsory.
- Passing Year: The candidates who have appeared in the qualifying examination in 2019, 2020, or appearing in 2021 can also fill-up the form.
- Diploma Holder: The diploma holders can apply for IITs only.
- Number of Attempts: 3 attempts to clear the examination.
JEE Main 2021 Application Process
Candidates need to go through the information brochure with utmost care before filling in the online application form 2021. Here is the detailed information on how to fill-up the form and are the criteria:
- The application process is entirely online.
- There will be no printed copy to apply for JEE Main.
- The Registration process started on 16th December 2020.
- Candidates must possess Aadhaar card details.
- Scanned copies of the candidate’s photograph and signature need to be submitted.
- After successful submission, the acknowledgement page needs to be downloaded for future use.
The application fees are based on the gender and category of the candidates and the mode of examination.
