GATE 2020 - Important Dates, Exam Pattern, and Application Process
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level exam conducted for admission to Postgraduate programmes (Master’s and Doctoral) offered by institutes supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and other government colleges viz. IITs, NITs, IISc, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). Many private institutes also consider GATE score for PG admissions. The exam is conducted on a rotational basis by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Madras and Roorkee). GATE 2020 exam will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.
GATE score is also accepted by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) such as BHEL, GAIL, ONGC, IOCL, NTPC, etc. for their recruitment process. The GATE score remain valid for three years. GATE 2020 Eligibility Criteria
There is no minimum pass percentage for appearing in the GATE exam, however, candidates must meet any of the following criteria for sitting in the exam:
Bachelor’s degree holder in Engineering/ Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology or B.Sc.). Candidates in the final year of such programmes are also eligible.
OR
Bachelor’s degree holder/ appearing in the final year of Architecture (5 years)/ Naval Architecture (4 years).
OR
Bachelor’s degree holder/ appearing in the final year of B.Sc. (4 years course).
OR
Passed/ appearing (final year) in Master’s programme in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Computer Applications/ Statistics or equivalent programme.
OR
Four-year integrated Master’s degree (post B.Sc.) in Engineering/ Technology. Candidates who are in the second or higher year of such program are also eligible.
OR
Five-year integrated Master’s degree/ dual degree in Engineering/ Technology. Fourth or higher year students are also eligible.
OR
Five-year integrated M.Sc. or B.Sc./ M.Sc. dual degree programme. Those interested in the final year of such programmes are also eligible.
OR
B.E./B.Tech. equivalent qualification obtained through examinations conducted by UPSC/ AICTE recognized professional societies. Candidates who have completed Section A of AMIE exam or equivalent are also eligible.
GATE 2020 Exam Pattern
GATE 2020 will be conducted in 25 subjects and the complete details about the exam pattern are stated under:
Mode of the Examination - Online (Computer Based Test)
Duration of the Examination - 3 Hours
Type of Questions - Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions
Number of Questions - 65 (including 10 on General Aptitude)
Total Marks - 100
Subjects - 25
Marking Scheme - Questions carry 1 or 2 marks. 1/3 marks will be deducted for wrong response if the question is of 1 mark and 2/3 marks will be deducted for wrong response if the question is of 2 marks. Only MCQs have negative marking. NAT questions will not have any negative marking.

The exam conducting authority also releases Mock Tests for the GATE exam. Candidates must take the mock test to understand the exam pattern in a better way.
GATE 2020 Syllabus
As the GATE exam is conducted for 25 subjects, it is not feasible to provide syllabus of all the 25 subjects here. Candidates can easily download the GATE syllabus from the official website. Engineering Mathematics will have questions from Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations, Numerical Integration and Differentiation, Numerical methods for linear and nonlinear algebraic equations, Laplace transforms, and Fourier Series.

GATE 2020 Application Process
GATE 2020 applications can be submitted only through the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System) portal. The application process for the 2020 exam will begin from 3rd September and will continue till 24th September 2019. The application process is easy and self-explanatory, candidates just need to follow the given steps:
- Visit the GOAPS portal - http://gate.iitd.ac.in/.
- Go to the online application link.
- Register as a new user. You will receive an application number.
- Using the application number and password, log-in to complete the GATE form.
- Provide all the details to complete the form.
- Upload the scanned images of the required documents.
- Make the application fee payment.
- On successful submission of the form, take a print of the confirmation page.

GATE 2020 Admit Card
Before the exam commencement, candidates are required to download the admit card for the GATE exam. Admit card is necessary for making entry to the examination hall. It contains details for examination venue, timing, and date. Do read the instructions written on the admit card carefully and follow them. Carry the admit card to the examination centre along with an original and valid ID proof.
GATE 2020 Result
As per the official notification, the GATE 2020 result will be announced on 16th March 2020. Candidates will be able to check their score through the GOAPS portal using their login ID and password. The result comprises of candidate’s score and All India Rank in the exam.
