Common Admission Test (CAT) Exam Pattern 2022
Common Admission Test (CAT) 2022 is scheduled to be conducted on 27th November (Sunday). Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM-I) will be conducting this year’s exam for MBA seats in 20 IIMs across the country. CAT exam is popular for changes in the exam pattern every year. This year, the changes have been introduced in the duration of the exam. As per the new pattern, the exam will now be of 2 hours duration instead of three. In order to help students understand the exam structure, IIMs release mock tests before the main exams. Mock tests for the 2022 exam will be released in the last week of October. CAT Exam Pattern 2022
CAT 2022 exam duration has been revised from three hours to two hours. The exam will now be conducted in the following three sessions:
- Session I (Morning): 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
- Session II (Afternoon): 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM
- Session III (Evening): 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
CAT is a Computer Based Test (CBT) carrying 100 multiple choice questions from three sections. The duration of the exam is 2 hours. Here is the division of questions and time for different sections:

The sections appear in the same order as mentioned above, and each section is time-bound. Candidates cannot move between the sections before the time completes for each section. However, they are free to move to any question within the section.
A non-scientific on-screen calculator is provided to help students with basic calculations.
Non-MCQs Questions
Since 2015, non-MCQs have been introduced by the IIMs in CAT. Here the students have to type in the answers in the space provided with the help of a virtual keyboard and mouse. The number of non-objective type questions is not fixed, but as per last year’s pattern, here is the ratio of MCQs and non-MCQs in CAT:

Marking Scheme -
For MCQs: 3 marks are awarded for every correct answer, and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.
For Non-MCQs: 3 marks are allotted for correct non-MCQs, and no negative marking is followed with this type of question.
